Summer party is a SIZZLING SUCCESS!

The weather was kind on Saturday 25 July at the IHCC Summer Party held in the garden of the Kinsbourne Green Village Hall in Harpenden. Guests tucked in to a succulent BBQ with a large variety of salads and accompaniments all washed down with drinks from our donation bar. The event was well attended by people from near and far –  included a delegation from the Ugandan High Commission in London.

Dr Paul Choudhury gave an informal presentation on his recent visit to Uganda which highlighted the success of the outreach clinics and the expansion to include the new ear clinic at Kisenyi Health Centre. He gave particular thanks to Pam and John Layton on joining the Uganda team for two weeks as volunteers. Pam, a UK audiologist, was able to carry out audiological assessment on many children and to provide further training for local audiologists. She was amazed at the high percentage of referrals requiring assessment and the high numbers being diagnosed with severe to profound hearing loss.

Paul also thanked Jude Chapman for her creative marketing ideas. In particular, the Frisbee’s which were taken to Uganda and distributed to children in the outreach clinics to raise awareness and to provide a point of contact for parents to seek help for their children.

The rain held off and, although a little chilly, the evening raised £700 for the cause. Thank you to all who attended.
